Staff Backend Engineer

About the role

Join the founding team of a fintech startup in India to build a product from 0 to 1. As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will own backend architecture and contribute across the stack while shaping technical direction. This remote role offers significant autonomy in a lean, fast-moving environment.

What you’ll do

• Take end-to-end ownership of technology as the founding engineer
• Design and evolve robust backend systems, APIs, and databases
• Own backend engineering while contributing across the full stack
• Partner with the founding team to shape product and technical strategy
• Manage features from idea to production, including testing and deployment
• Make practical technology choices balancing scalability and speed
• Own reliability, performance, security, and maintainability of systems
• Use AI extensively to improve development speed and quality

What you’ll bring

• 7–10 years of software engineering experience
• Strong expertise in Node.js and TypeScript
• Extensive backend engineering experience
• Proven experience taking products from 0 to 1
• Strong experience designing backend architectures and APIs
• Demonstrated ownership in autonomous environments
• Hands-on use of AI tools and workflows
• Experience building projects using AI or LLMs
