Associate Director, Software Engineering

About the role

HSBC seeks an Associate Director of Software Engineering in Pune to lead the Avaloq Banking System team. The role involves overseeing end-to-end development, driving automation strategies, and managing global engineering capabilities within Private Banking. This on-site position requires deep expertise in Avaloq customization and implementation.

What you’ll do

• Lead Avaloq deliveries and oversee end-to-end development life cycle including design, testing, and deployment
• Drive automation strategy in collaboration with the Test Manager
• Provide leadership to global engineering teams and build required capabilities
• Ensure code quality, documentation, and compliance with development standards
• Manage local team activities including recruitment, training, and career management
• Identify risks and ensure adherence to risk, control, and governance protocols
• Partner with Head of Engineering to develop robust location strategy for Avaloq workforce
• Serve as single point of contact for local Avaloq escalations and incident resolution

What you’ll bring

• 15+ years total experience with 8-10 years in Avaloq Banking System customization and implementation
• Strong understanding of Private Banking domains including Investment, Capital Markets, and Trading
• Proven ability to lead Avaloq deliveries and oversee the full development lifecycle
• Expertise in Agile and DevOps methodologies for project delivery

Nice to have

• Hands-on technical knowledge of Avaloq platform, interfaces, EOD, and deployment automation
• Experience in recruitment, talent management, retention, and local administration
• Ability to contribute to high-level architecture and system design
• Strong communication skills with a track record of influencing stakeholders
