Principal Embedded Software Engineer

About the role

Ethernovia, Inc. seeks a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to lead firmware development for its next‑generation Ethernet networking devices. The role involves designing, implementing, and testing low‑level drivers and firmware that interface with host systems, ensuring safety‑critical compliance with ISO26262 and MISRA standards. Candidates will architect the firmware stack, integrate it into the company SDK, and perform rigorous unit and system testing. The position requires deep expertise in C/C++, Ethernet protocols, and embedded hardware, along with experience in bootloaders, hardware buses, and safety certification processes. What you’ll do

• Develop embedded firmware stack for networking devices
• Design and implement device drivers for host OS
• Integrate firmware into Ethernovia SDK
• Perform unit and system testing of firmware
• Ensure compliance with functional safety standards

What you’ll bring

• BS/MS in Computer Science or related field
• 10+ years of embedded firmware experience
• Proficient in C/C++ programming
• Experience with Ethernet communication devices
• Knowledge of safety standards (MISRA, ISO26262)
• Strong debugging and compiler skills (GNU, uboot)
• Experience with hardware buses (I2C, SPI, USB)
• Familiarity with version control (Git, Perforce)
• Understanding of automotive protocols (TCP/IP, Ethernet MAC)
• Experience with bootloaders and low-level integration

Nice to have

• Python programming experience
• Simulation and emulation platform knowledge
• Video processing standards familiarity
• Digital Signal Processing (DSP) experience
• Bootloader development (uboot or similar)
