About the role
Collins Aerospace Safety-Critical Embedded Software team builds mission‑critical avionics software for next‑generation aerospace platforms. The Principal Engineer leads design, development, and validation of safety‑critical embedded applications, defines architecture, verification strategies, and mentors engineers across the full SDLC. What you’ll do
- Develop and validate complex safety‑critical embedded software applications
- Lead software development across the complete SDLC
- Translate customer and system requirements into software specifications
- Define software architecture, design approaches, and verification strategies
- Create and review test plans, test cases, and validation procedures
- Ensure compliance with aerospace certification standards
- Collaborate with Systems Engineering, V&V, Certification, and Program Management teams
- Mentor engineers and drive continuous process improvements
What you’ll bring
- 12+ years embedded software development, aerospace safety‑critical experience
- 8+ years DO‑178 and ARP4754A certification knowledge
- 6+ years ARINC 429, AFDX, ARINC 653, ARINC 615A protocol expertise
- 8+ years software lifecycle, requirements engineering, verification
- 7+ years deriving software requirements from system level
- 8+ years defining verification and validation strategies
- Hands‑on C++ embedded development
- Knowledge of Flight Management Systems
