Senior Manager - Software Asset Management

About the role

Senior Manager – Software Asset Management leads the SAM function within Hapag‑Lloyd’s FinOps team. Responsible for establishing SAM charter, governing software asset lifecycle, and ensuring compliance across cloud, on‑premises, and vessel deployments. Manages volume and SaaS licensing, negotiates contracts, monitors usage for savings, and delivers license position reports using Flexera, ServiceNow, and Nexthink. Maintains accurate asset data, supports audits, and drives true‑up policy. Engages stakeholders across FinOps, CCoE, Cloud Ops, Finance, Procurement, Product, CISO, and Legal to optimize software spend and align with business strategy.

What you’ll do

• Establish SAM Charter/Framework for all software/SaaS
• Manage end-to-end software lifecycle: procurement, deployment, usage, renewal
• Handle volume & SaaS licensing, negotiate contracts, manage legal terms
• Monitor usage, identify consolidation, savings, license reallocation
• Use Flexera, ServiceNow, Nexthink to deliver License Position reports during renewals
• Maintain Asset Management System data accuracy per SLAs, update, track, report
• Process software purchase requests with procurement and IT support
• Support audits, compliance with accurate inventory and license documentation
• Manage true-up policy, track renewals
• Engage stakeholders: FinOps, CCoE, Cloud Ops, Finance, Procurement, CISO, Compliance

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor's degree in IT, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
• 10-15 years experience in SAM, ITAM, or related domains
• Strong understanding of SAM tools (Flexera, ServiceNow SAM, Nexthink)
• In-depth knowledge of software licensing models (Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, SAP, SaaS, etc.)
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills
