About the role

Gracenote, Nielsen’s content business unit, powers media entertainment by delivering personalized content search and discovery across global platforms. This Principal Member Technical Staff role drives engineering technology, architecture, and best practices while contributing 60% to hands-on development of scalable backend systems. The position is based in Mumbai, Karnataka, India, on an on-site work model.

What you’ll do

• Drive technology and good practices in Engineering within respective teams
• Partner with Product team to translate business requirements into technical roadmaps
• Actively participate in development, creating modules and systems reflecting best practices
• Ensure cross-system integration for seamless data flow across ingestion and delivery
• Create architectures and designs for new solutions around existing and new problem spaces
• Establish organization-wide engineering standards including coding guidelines and security protocols
• Mentor and guide Senior engineers to foster a culture of learning and collaboration
• Implement long-term technology vision and drive adoption of new tools and technologies

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 15+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Advanced proficiency in Java, Scala, or Python for high-throughput workloads
• Deep expertise in microservices, DDD, and distributed systems
• Experience with real-time streaming and batch processing data pipelines
• Extensive hands-on experience designing for cloud environments (primarily AWS)
• Proficiency with containerization and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Rust or Golang for performance-critical components
• Working knowledge of machine learning and data science concepts
• Familiarity with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
