Senior Engineer Controls

About the role

Global Competency Center (GCC) at Barry-Wehmiller designs and develops advanced automation solutions for industrial customers. The Senior Controls Engineer leads end‑to‑end development of control software, including PLC, HMI/SCADA, robotics and vision systems, while collaborating with mechanical and software teams to deliver custom automation projects. Based in Chennai, India, this role works on-site at the GCC facility with occasional travel (up to 20%).

What you’ll do

• Design and develop clean‑sheet automation systems from concept to production
• Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, robotics and safety devices
• Conduct testing, validation and troubleshooting of control systems
• Provide technical support during installation, commissioning and maintenance
• Create and review detailed Bill of Materials and design documentation
• Maintain schedule milestones and cost targets
• Stay current with emerging automation technologies
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

What you’ll bring

• 8+ years experience in control systems design and programming
• Proficiency with Siemens, AB Rockwell, Beckhoff, B&R or Sigmatek software
• Hands‑on PLC and HMI/SCADA development
• Experience with robotics, vision and sensor integration
• Strong knowledge of electrical component selection and panel layout
• Familiarity with E‑Plan or AutoCAD Electrical
• Ability to travel up to 20% domestically or globally
• Self‑driven and able to work independently
