People & Culture Director

About the role

People & Culture team at SmartBear drives inclusive, high‑performing workplaces and ensures compliance across India. The Director partners with senior leaders to translate business goals into people strategies, coaches managers on performance, talent retention and organizational design, and leads statutory compliance for all India employees. Based in Bengaluru, the role operates in a hybrid model, collaborating with global People & Culture colleagues to adapt programs locally.

What you’ll do

• Partner with business leaders to align People & Culture strategies with organizational goals
• Coach and advise managers on performance, development, compensation, and employee relations
• Analyze engagement survey results and create actionable improvement plans
• Develop and implement talent retention initiatives to enhance employee experience
• Serve as the go‑to expert on Indian employment regulations and ensure compliance
• Collaborate with global People & Culture teams to adapt enterprise programs locally
• Maintain visibility into hiring, compensation changes, and terminations for compliance risk mitigation
• Lead statutory compliance initiatives across all India‑based employees

What you’ll bring

• 8+ years senior People Partner or HR Business Partner experience
• Strong expertise in performance management, employee relations, and organizational effectiveness
• Proven ability to develop and implement talent retention strategies
• Deep knowledge of Indian labor law and statutory compliance
• Experience analyzing employee engagement data and driving action plans
• Excellent communication, coaching, and stakeholder management skills
• Experience working in a high‑growth technology environment
• Background in people operations, HR systems, and policy administration (preferred)
