About the role

Morgan Stanley is seeking a Director in its Investment Management Operations team, specifically within Product Support & Services, based in Mumbai, India. The role supports financial transactions, devises and implements effective controls, and manages post-execution processes across the Firm's private equity operations. Day-to-day, you will manage complex invoice workflows and expense allocations, lead process improvement and automation initiatives, analyze ambiguous operational issues, and build stakeholder relationships. The position requires front-to-back knowledge of PE fund structures and operations, with a focus on driving efficiency through technology and reporting.

What you’ll do

  • Manage complex processes and/or support significant process management/project efforts
  • Lead in process improvement, project management or technology development and testing across multiple teams and/or divisions
  • Analyze and expose ambiguous, complex issues or non-standard issues, identify risks, root causes and propose future actions, tracking through to resolution
  • Build and manage relationships with business unit partners, other Morgan Stanley infrastructure departments, and external contact points in Client or Market organizations
  • Manage invoice workflows through accounting/AP platforms and review invoices against contracts, budgets, and approval matrices
  • Code and allocate expenses across funds, entities, and portfolios
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes within Fund Operations
  • Create process dashboards and KPI reporting using Power BI or equivalent tools

What you’ll bring

  • At least 8 years' relevant experience generally expected for this role
  • Experience in private equity/real estate or PE/real estate fund of funds investment accounting is required
  • Strong analytical capabilities with advanced Excel and automation skills (Alteryx/AI)
  • Understanding of PE fund structures (LP/GP, Fund of Funds, Co-investments), capital calls, distributions, management fees, and carried interest
  • Ability to manage stakeholders and drive operational efficiency and process improvement
  • Front-to-back knowledge of processes, projects, systems, markets, and instruments influencing the team
  • Comprehensive understanding of job-related operational/compliance policies and procedures
  • Ability to think commercially and understand the impact of initiatives and risks on the operational budget

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of hedge fund accounting and/or derivatives is a plus
  • Experience with Investran is a plus
