Lead Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Space Systems Engineering team at Dhruva Space designs and builds advanced mechanical systems and mechanisms for spacecraft. The Lead Mechanical Engineer drives end‑to‑end development of deployment systems, actuators, hinges and precision assemblies, oversees design reviews, FMECA and qualification campaigns, and mentors a small team of engineers. Hyderabad, on‑site role, leading R&D and ensuring aerospace standards and mission success.

What you’ll do

• Lead end‑to‑end development of mechanical systems and space mechanisms
• Oversee project schedules, technical rigor and qualification milestones
• Supervise and mentor a team of 4–5 engineers
• Conduct and chair design and drawing reviews ensuring GD&T compliance
• Prepare ICDs, design reports, test plans and qualification documentation
• Plan and lead PDR, CDR and FRR reviews
• Perform FMECA and reliability assessments to mitigate risks
• Collaborate with systems, avionics, structures and AIT teams for integration

What you’ll bring

• 5+ years mechanical engineering experience in aerospace or space mechanisms
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and FEA tools
• Expertise in GD&T, DFM/DFA and tolerance analysis
• Experience leading small engineering teams
• Strong knowledge of aerospace standards and qualification processes
• Ability to conduct design reviews and reliability assessments
• Hands‑on experience with mechanism design, actuators and deployment systems
• Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration
