About the role
The Amazon Search team is on a multi-year journey to improve the global shopping experience by creating customer-focused search solutions. As an Applied Scientist II in Bengaluru, you will lead efforts in query understanding, semantic matching, and ranking using NLP, ML, and DL technologies. You will build scalable systems that anticipate user intent and deliver high-precision results across all supported languages.
What you’ll do
- Develop and deploy ML models to produce relevant search results
- Design and train semantic matching models for ranking and relevance
- Develop reinforcement learning and reward-modeling approaches to improve search quality
- Train multi-objective ranking and scoring systems balancing diversity and relevance
- Design scalable model architectures optimized for strict latency constraints
- Lead end-to-end science projects from problem formulation through production launch
What you’ll bring
- 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
- PhD or Master's degree
- Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Programming experience in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience in algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, or high-performance computing
Nice to have
- Experience using Unix/Linux
- Experience in professional software development
