Design Lead / Chief Engineer – Substation (Civil & Structural)

About the role

Objective / Purpose The Person shall carry out Substation Analysis & design of Civil & Structural works for the PT&D IC. The person shall carry out civil related works for Substation. Responsible to cater to needs of all SS teams of Domestic & International. The Design lead Engineer prepares the design documents and reviews the drawings for a project or a set of smaller projects including co-ordination with other disciplines viz., Electrical, Instrumentation and Mechanical. Design lead Engineer with shall work with a team of engineers and draughts person to manage the Engineering activities within budget, deliver on time and maintaining a high quality of engineering Key Responsibilities: ? Preparation of design documents. ? Review of Detailed Engineering Drawings ? Submission of Structural drawings & design document and to client for seeking approval ? Preparation of Document Control Index (DCI) ? Coordination with Site Team and Client to meet the requirements of design and drawings ? Preparing & checking BOQ and material with respect to previous projects ? Preparation of Design Basis Report for seeking approval from client regarding SOW. ? Interaction with Client for Drawing Approval and Clarification ? Interaction with Site for Clarification on drawing ? Optimize the structural quantities limiting the quantity with bidding quantity & at the same time meet the client requirement. ? Communication with interdisciplinary for getting civil inputs. ? Preparing mark up for drafting. ? Checking of drawings submitted by Draughts person. ? Preparation of pre-bid queries ? Study of clarifications & amendments, Soil investigation report (SIR), Tender drawings. Technical Expertise: The Design Engineer shall be capable of performing the analysis & design, drawings of structural & civil elements covering GIS substation / control room buildings, transformer foundations, outdoor equipment foundations, guard house, staff quarters, grading, roads and drainage, outdoor steel structures and miscellaneous works related to the substations and cabling works. Design Engineer - Civil shall be able to review Vendor engineering documents with respect to Civil & Structural design. Knowledge of switchyard gantry towers, equipment supporting structures & foundations. Also, able to review of fabrication / detailed drawings for steel supporting structures. Should be familiar with design codes - domestic & international standards. The Engineer should be proficient in Steel structures, RCC structures & Geotech aspects. Knowledge of Site conditions, Topographic Conditions, environmental conditions for design calculations.

What you’ll do

• Prepare and review civil/structural design documents and detailed drawings
• Develop and submit structural drawings and design packages for client approval
• Create and maintain Document Control Index and design basis reports
• Coordinate with site teams, clients, and interdisciplinary groups to meet design requirements
• Perform quantity optimization and cost control for structural components
• Review vendor documents and ensure compliance with design standards
• Manage drafting staff, conduct drawing mark‑ups and quality checks
• Support pre‑bid queries, tender drawings, and soil investigation reports

What you’ll bring

• 15-19 years experience in civil/structural engineering
• Proven experience designing substations, GIS facilities, and transformer foundations
• Strong knowledge of Indian and international design codes and standards
• Proficiency in steel structures, RCC design, and geotechnical aspects
• Ability to review vendor engineering documents and detailed steel drawings
• Experience coordinating with electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical disciplines
• Hands‑on experience preparing design documents, BOQs, and design basis reports
• Leadership of multidisciplinary design teams
