About the role
Marine Classification Engineering at ABS focuses on ensuring safety and regulatory compliance for vessels and offshore units. The Senior Engineer leads a team of engineers, assigns and monitors complex piping design projects, conducts detailed reviews of plans and calculations, and ensures adherence to SOLAS, IMO MODU, MARPOL and other class rules. Based in Mumbai, India, this role operates on-site with occasional field visits to shipyards or offshore sites. The position offers leadership in technical guidance, client communication, and development of qualification proposals.
What you’ll do
- Provide day‑to‑day leadership of engineering staff and assign projects
- Conduct detailed engineering reviews of piping diagrams and hydraulic calculations
- Ensure compliance with class rules, statutory regulations and contract commitments
- Draft technical reports, client responses and weekly billing statements
- Monitor project quality, consistency and timeliness across assignments
- Guide and train junior engineers and review their work
- Participate in development and updates of class rules
- Maintain liaison with internal and external engineering specialists
What you’ll bring
B.S. in Mechanical, Marine or related engineering
Nice to have
- 10-15 years engineering experience in shipyard, design or classification
- Advanced knowledge of marine vessel and offshore unit systems
- Expertise in piping systems, fittings, materials and onboard manuals
- Familiarity with SOLAS, IMO MODU, MARPOL and related regulations
- Ability to lead and mentor engineering staff
- Proficiency in preparing technical reports and client communications
- Experience with ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management Systems
