Software Engineer

About the role

Caterpillar Inc. seeks a Software Engineer to contribute to the development and deployment of its state-of-the-art digital platform within the Technology, Digital and Data career area. The role involves designing and implementing end-to-end near real-time data movement solutions, building large data lakes and warehouses, and driving application development focused on delivering business-valuable features. Based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, this full-time position requires on-site work five days a week, with relocation assistance available.

What you’ll do

• Design and implement end-to-end near real-time data movement solutions
• Contribute to development and deployment of Caterpillar's state-of-the-art digital platform
• Perform all programming and development assignments without close supervision, handling complex aspects of systems work
• Work independently on complex systems or infrastructure components used by one or more applications or systems
• Drive application development focused around delivering business valuable features
• Maintain high standards of software quality by establishing good practices and habits
• Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team
• Mentor junior developers fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning

What you’ll bring

• Four-year degree from an accredited college or university
• 5+ years of software development experience or at least 3 years with a master's degree in computer science or related field
• 5+ years of experience designing and developing Data Pipelines in Python
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• On-site work five days a week in Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Nice to have

• Expertise in building Large Data Lakes and Data Warehouse (Snowflake Preferred)
• Deploying software using CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps (Preferred), Jenkins, GoCD, AWS CloudFormation
• Good understanding of AI concepts and latest developments (Gen AI, MCP, ATA, etc.)
• Experience with message brokers and AWS services such as Kafka/Kinesis, AWS SQS, AWS SNS, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Aurora, AWS RDS PostgreSQL
• At least 2+ years of deploying and maintaining software using public clouds such as AWS or Azure
• Test driven development and behaviour driven development
• Demonstrated leadership on medium to large-scale projects impacting strategic priorities
