Associate Data Scientist (Data Engineering)

About the role

Associate Data Scientist (Data Engineering) at Amgen supports the Marketing Science Operations (MSO) team by building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines, ensuring data quality, and delivering reliable datasets for analytics. The role involves data ingestion, validation, monitoring, documentation, and collaboration with BI, analytics, and vendor partners. Candidates should have a CS/Engineering/IS/Data Science degree, SQL proficiency, and experience in data engineering or analytics engineering. Python, cloud tools (Databricks, Spark, Azure/AWS, ADF/Airflow), and DevSecOps exposure are preferred.

What you’ll do

• Build and maintain ETL/ELT workflows for marketing and media datasets
• Implement data validations and QA checks (schema, null, duplication, reconciliation)
• Monitor pipeline runs, investigate failures, log analysis, issue escalation
• Develop reusable governed datasets/data products for BI and analytics
• Document data flows, runbooks, assumptions, source mapping
• Collaborate with cross‑functional partners (MSO BI, Ops, Analytics, Vendors)
• Participate in continuous learning and improvement of engineering fundamentals
• Analyze functional & non‑functional requirements, prototype technical specs

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor's or Master's in CS/Engineering/IS/Data Science
• Experience in data/analytics engineering or software engineering
• Familiarity with tables, schemas, joins, basic transformations
• Proficiency in SQL and structured data analysis
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical reasoning
• Effective written and verbal communication
• Strong learning mindset, open to new tools and contexts

Nice to have

• Python automation experience
• Cloud/data tools: Databricks, Spark/PySpark, Azure/AWS, ADF/Airflow
• ETL/ELT pipelines, batch processing, orchestration
• Data quality, profiling, governance, logging, monitoring, incident triage
