Senior Database Engineer / Senior Consultant Specialist

About the role

HSBC is seeking a Senior Database Engineer / Senior Consultant Specialist in Pune, Maharashtra, India, to own the health, performance, and reliability of a multi-database ecosystem spanning relational, graph, and cloud-hosted platforms. Day-to-day work includes designing and administering PostgreSQL and Cassandra databases, developing on TigerGraph with GSQL, managing BigQuery datasets, monitoring performance, enforcing security and disaster recovery, and collaborating with backend and data teams on data modelling and migrations. The role requires 7+ years of overall IT experience with strong Database Administration expertise.

What you’ll do

• Own the health, performance, and reliability of a multi-database ecosystem across relational, graph, and cloud-hosted platforms
• Design, implement, and maintain PostgreSQL and Cassandra databases, including schema design, indexing strategies, query optimisation, and high-availability configurations
• Administer and develop on TigerGraph, including graph schema modelling, GSQL query development, and cluster management
• Manage BigQuery datasets, including table partitioning, clustering, cost optimisation, and access control
• Monitor database performance across all platforms, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks, deadlocks, and slow queries
• Own backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies for all managed databases
• Enforce data security policies, user access controls, and compliance requirements
• Collaborate with backend engineering and data teams on data modelling and query design

What you’ll bring

• 7+ years of overall IT experience with strong Database Administration expertise
• Hands-on DBA experience including performance tuning, replication, vacuuming, and partitioning
• Hands-on experience with TigerGraph, including graph modelling, GSQL development, and cluster operations
• Strong experience with Cassandra (data modelling, query optimisation, and operational support)
• Strong understanding of database security, access controls, backup strategies, and disaster recovery
• Solid experience with GCP services such as Cloud SQL, GCS, IAM, and networking
• Operational familiarity with Kubernetes/GKE (TigerGraph deployed on GKE)
• Experience with CI/CD and/or Liquibase for database change automation

Nice to have

• Working knowledge of BigQuery (partitioning/clustering, cost optimisation, and access control/IAM) — good to have
• Exposure to CI/CD and/or Liquibase for database change automation (good to have)
