About the role
Google seeks a PhD-level Software Engineer for its Persistent Disk team in Bengaluru or Hyderabad. The role focuses on research and development of next‑generation storage architectures, backup and disaster‑recovery solutions, and distributed systems. Candidates will prototype novel backup/replication algorithms, evaluate emerging technologies, and improve reliability, scalability, and performance of production systems. The position requires a PhD in CS, EE, or related field, strong R&D experience in data storage, distributed systems, and concurrency, and proficiency in C, C++, Python, Java, or Golang. Successful applicants will publish research, collaborate with internal stakeholders, and contribute to Google’s AI/ML and infrastructure initiatives. Availability to start in 2026 is required.
