About the role
Quality Engineering & Testing at Caterpillar drives robust, scalable software across web, mobile, API and data platforms. The Lead Software Test Engineer defines testing strategies, builds Playwright automation frameworks, and leads AI‑enhanced test initiatives while mentoring engineers. Based in Chennai and Bangalore, India, on-site with hybrid flexibility as needed.
What you’ll do
- Define quality engineering strategies and standards
- Architect and maintain Playwright automation frameworks
- Lead test planning, risk assessment and release readiness
- Drive AI‑driven testing solutions and automation roadmaps
- Collaborate with product, engineering and DevOps teams
- Conduct root cause analysis and continuous improvement
What you’ll bring
- 5+ years software testing
- Lead functional, regression, integration testing
- Design automation frameworks with Playwright
- API testing using Karate
- AWS services experience
- Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
- Mentor and coach QA engineers
Nice to have
- Strong coding skills in Java/JavaScript/TypeScript
- Expertise in API testing and REST contracts
- Experience with data validation and ETL testing
- Knowledge of AI/GenAI testing tools
- Familiarity with eCommerce domain
