Associate Director, RDU IT Data Engineering

About the role

RDU IT Data Engineering team at AstraZeneca builds next‑generation, patient‑centric data and AI platforms that power rare disease innovation. The Associate Director leads design and delivery of cloud‑native ELT/ETL pipelines, data products, and AI‑enabled observability on AWS and Snowflake, mentoring engineers in responsible AI use. Based in Bangalore with a hybrid model (minimum three days onsite), the role collaborates closely with data science, analytics, and compliance teams to ensure secure, scalable, and compliant data solutions.

What you’ll do

• Design and build scalable cloud‑native data pipelines on AWS and Snowflake
• Implement AI‑accelerated development tools for code generation and testing
• Develop data quality, observability, and self‑healing frameworks using AI
• Operationalize data governance, privacy, and compliance controls
• Optimize performance and cost of Snowflake warehouses with AI recommendations
• Partner with data science teams to deliver feature‑ready datasets
• Mentor engineers on modern data engineering practices and responsible AI
• Contribute reusable components and best‑practice templates for the organization

What you’ll bring

• Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
• 10+ years data engineering experience
• SQL and Python expertise
• AWS architecture and Snowflake proficiency
• Apache Airflow or AWS Glue orchestration
• dbt and Fivetran data transformation
• AI copilots for code and documentation
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform

Education

Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field
