About the role
Google seeks a PhD-level software engineer to build next‑generation networking and AI infrastructure. The role focuses on kernel driver development for IPUs/NICs, ensuring high‑scale performance and reliability within Google Cloud. Candidates will lead cross‑functional workstreams, write production‑grade code, and solve complex distributed systems challenges across AI/ML, networking, security, and data storage.
What you’ll do

What you’ll bring
- PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Proficient in C, C++, Java, or Golang.
- Experience with large‑scale distributed systems and networking.
- Strong background in algorithms, complexity analysis, and system design.
Nice to have
- Experience with SmartNIC technologies.
- Generalist engineer blending technical execution with program management.
- Ability to lead multiple workstreams with attention to detail.
- Proficient in code review, ensuring best practices.
