Data Engineer I, SmartCommerce

About the role

The SmartCommerce team at Amazon is building SmartBiz, a one-stop shop for Indian sellers to create and run e-commerce stores. As a Data Engineer-I, you will design, build, and maintain complex data solutions for this new business initiative, working on data modeling, warehousing, and ETL pipelines. You will also participate in code reviews, design discussions, and operational excellence while owning data quality for key datasets. This full-time role is based in Bengaluru, KA, IND.

What you’ll do

• Design, build, and maintain complex data solutions for Amazon's SmartCommerce businesses
• Actively participate in code review, design discussions, team planning, and operational excellence
• Make appropriate trade-offs, reuse where possible, and be judicious about introducing dependencies
• Make efficient use of resources such as system hardware, data storage, query optimization, and AWS infrastructure
• Ask correct questions when data models and requirements are not well defined and come up with scalable, maintainable, and efficient designs
• Make enhancements that improve the team's data architecture, including data auditing solutions and automating manual operation steps
• Own the data quality of important datasets and any new changes or enhancements

What you’ll bring

• 1+ years of data engineering experience
• Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines
• Experience with one or more query languages (e.g., SQL, PL/SQL, DDL, MDX, HiveQL, SparkSQL, Scala)
• Experience with one or more scripting languages (e.g., Python, KornShell)
• Bachelor's degree

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions
• Experience writing and optimizing SQL queries with large-scale, complex datasets
• Experience with any ETL tool like Informatica, ODI, SSIS, BODI, Datastage, etc.
