About the role

Information Intelligence team at Apple builds next‑generation Search and Question Answering systems across Siri, Safari, Spotlight and other products. The Senior Machine Learning Engineer develops and ships large‑scale search relevance, ranking and retrieval‑augmented generation models, and creates tooling to evaluate component and end‑to‑end quality. Based in India, on‑site work model.

What you’ll do

• Design and implement large‑scale machine learning models for search and Q&A
• Develop and maintain evaluation pipelines and tooling
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve relevance and answer accuracy
• Contribute to research and prototype new retrieval‑augmented generation approaches
• Mentor junior engineers and share best practices

What you’ll bring

• 8+ years experience in shipping Search and Q&A technologies and ML systems
• Proficient in C++, Python, Scala, Go
• Delivered tooling and frameworks for component and end‑to‑end evaluation
• Strong analytical skills for search relevance improvement
• Excellent communication and teamwork

Nice to have

• Background in Search Relevance, Ranking, Question Answering, Query Understanding, Personalization or Recommendation systems
• Hands‑on experience with Retrieval Augmented Generation and LLMs
• Experience presenting plans, progress and demos
• MS or Ph.D in AI, Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, Computer Science, Statistics
