About the role

PowerSchool’s Research & Development team seeks a Lead Engineer II in Bengaluru to drive technical leadership for modern enterprise applications and cloud infrastructure. This hands-on role involves guiding architecture, mentoring engineers, and implementing solutions across Java and TypeScript ecosystems. The position is based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

What you’ll do

  • Provide technical leadership for cross-functional teams delivering customer-facing applications and APIs
  • Define and evolve frontend, backend, integration, and cloud architecture for complex systems
  • Design, implement, review, test, and troubleshoot production software across Java and TypeScript systems
  • Establish engineering patterns for API design, testing, security, observability, and release quality
  • Partner with product, design, security, and DevOps teams to translate business goals into technical plans
  • Identify technical debt and guide modernization without disrupting ongoing product delivery
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, pairing, and technical planning

What you’ll bring

  • Minimum of 10 years professional software engineering experience
  • Leadership of complex initiatives involving multiple services or teams
  • Strong hands-on expertise in Java backend ecosystem OR TypeScript/JavaScript with Node.js
  • Experience designing production-grade distributed systems using APIs and microservices
  • Experience with cloud-native architecture, containers, Kubernetes, or managed cloud services
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation
