About the role

Oportun, a mission-driven financial services company, seeks a Principal Product Manager for Lending Originations to lead strategy and development of capabilities that improve applicant experience and loan conversion. Based in Remote - India, this role involves defining multi-year roadmaps and leading cross-functional teams to deliver responsible lending products. The position requires balancing customer needs with complex regulatory and risk constraints.

What you’ll do

Define and communicate multi-year vision, strategy, and roadmap for Lending Originations
Establish objectives, key results, and performance metrics aligned with company priorities
Lead cross-functional teams including Engineering, Design, Data, Risk, and Compliance
Drive products from discovery and validation through launch, measurement, and scale
Develop and execute experiments to improve application completion and conversion rates
Maintain deep understanding of applicant needs through user research and data analysis
Partner with Legal and Compliance to ensure regulatory adherence and responsible lending
Craft clear product narratives and communicate priorities to executive leadership

12+ years total professional experience
7–10+ years core product management experience
Experience in high-growth environments
Background in financial services, FinTech, or lending
Proven track record launching customer-facing products
Strong analytical and experimentation skills
Ability to influence senior stakeholders
Clear written and verbal communication skills

Nice to have

Prior experience with lending originations or credit products
Familiarity with underwriting or loan decisioning
Experience managing products in regulated industries
Knowledge of credit risk, fraud, or compliance
