About the role

Halma India seeks an Embedded Firmware Engineer in Ahmedabad to design and maintain firmware for life-saving instruments. The role involves developing STM32-based applications, implementing secure bootloaders, and optimizing low-level drivers. This is a full-time, on-site position requiring 3-5 years of experience.

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware in C for STM32-based instruments
  • Develop and optimize low-level peripheral drivers (UART, I2C, SPI, DMA, etc.)
  • Architect and implement FreeRTOS-based applications including task decomposition and synchronization
  • Write and maintain custom bootloader code with image validation and rollback capabilities
  • Implement secure firmware update paths and anti-tamper measures
  • Integrate and characterize sensors and peripherals like gas sensors and BLE modules
  • Debug at hardware level using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers
  • Produce engineering documentation and support production teams with root cause analysis

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, ECE, Instrumentation, Computer Engineering or related field
  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on embedded firmware development experience in a product company
  • Strong proficiency in Embedded C including pointers, memory management, and interrupt-safe coding
  • Solid bare-metal experience with STM32 microcontrollers (Cortex-M0+/M3/M4)
  • Practical production-level experience with FreeRTOS

Nice to have

  • Demonstrated experience writing bootloader code and firmware update mechanisms
  • Working knowledge of firmware protection, encryption (AES), and secure boot concepts
  • Strong grasp of serial communication protocols (UART, I2C, SPI) and hardware debugging
  • Experience with Git and structured development workflows
