About the role
Google's AI and Infrastructure (AI2) organization within Google Cloud seeks a PhD Software Engineer, AI/ML, Early Career, 2026 to design, test, deploy, and maintain software solutions powering services like Search and YouTube. You will work on a small, versatile team solving complex, real-world problems across AI/ML, networking, data storage, security, and distributed systems, implementing solutions in specialized ML areas and contributing to model optimization and data processing. This full-time role is based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India or Hyderabad, Telangana, India.
What you’ll do
- Write product or system development code.
- Collaborate with peers and stakeholders through design and code reviews to ensure best practices amongst available technologies (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and ef
- Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
- Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
- Implement solutions in one or more specialized ML areas, utilize ML infrastructure, and contribute to model optimization and data processing.
What you’ll bring
- PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 1 year of experience with one or more of: Speech/audio, reinforcement learning, ML infrastructure, or specialization in another ML field.
- 1 year of experience with ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, optimization, data processing, debugging).
- Experience coding in one of the following programming languages including but not limited to: C, C++, Python, Java, or Golang.
Nice to have
- 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
- Experience in areas such as algorithms, architecture, artificial intelligence, compilers, databases, data mining, distributed systems, machine learning, networking, or general systems.
- Demonstrated success in publishing peer-reviewed articles in prestigious conferences or journals (e.g., ICML, ICLR, ACL, KDD, SOSP, Nature).
- Availability to commence a full-time position in 2026.
