Subject Matter Expert Payments Operations

About the role

ANZ’s Bengaluru operations center seeks a Subject Matter Expert to drive process excellence across domestic and international payment workflows. The role involves providing expert guidance on Australian payment systems, resolving complex transaction escalations, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This hybrid position is based in Bengaluru with an early morning shift schedule.

What you’ll do

• Act as SME for Australian payment systems, providing expert guidance on domestic and international processes
• Resolve complex transactions, payment exceptions, escalations, and reconciliation issues
• Monitor operational performance, identify error trends, and conduct root cause analysis
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal control standards
• Contribute to audit, risk management, and control testing activities
• Develop and maintain process documentation, SOPs, and training materials
• Collaborate with stakeholders to drive process improvements and automation initiatives

What you’ll bring

• 3-5 years experience in payments, banking operations, fintech, or corporate treasury
• Strong understanding of Australian payment systems (BECS, NPP, SWIFT, MIP, RTGS)
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks including APRA guidelines, AML/CTF obligations, and RBA standards
• Proven experience in reconciliation, exception management, and operational risk controls
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, or related field

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or MBA preferred
• Experience supporting audits, risk reviews, and control testing activities
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and training skills
• Experience developing SOPs, process documentation, and knowledge-sharing initiatives
