Software Engineering Manager

About the role

U.S. Bancorp India Reliability Engineering team drives reliability outcomes for distributed systems, APIs, microservices, data pipelines and critical production platforms. The Software Engineering Manager leads SRE leads and senior reliability engineers, overseeing incident response, reliability standards, automation and platform modernization while partnering across global engineering groups. Based in Chennai, India, this role is on-site at the U.S. Bancorp India office.

What you’ll do

• Own reliability outcomes for distributed systems and APIs
• Define and operationalize SLOs, SLIs and error budgets
• Lead production readiness reviews, capacity planning and chaos testing
• Drive standardization of monitoring, tracing and runbook practices
• Manage major incident response and root cause analysis
• Partner with infrastructure and platform teams to mitigate scaling risks
• Build and scale high‑performing SRE teams in a global model
• Promote infrastructure as code and automated recovery patterns

What you’ll bring

• 12+ years software, SRE or platform engineering experience
• 5+ years leading reliability or production engineering teams
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering
• Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms, Kubernetes, Linux and networking
• Experience with observability, telemetry and incident tooling
• Strong CI/CD, IaC and automation background
• Proven stakeholder management across global teams
• Experience in banking or financial services preferred
