About the role
The Cloud Center of Excellence (COE) at Gartner IT builds capabilities to automate and streamline IT infrastructure processes and DevOps tasks while improving self-service using public cloud platforms and open-source technologies. As a Principal Architect and People Manager, you will serve as an expert contributor in cloud architecture and automation while leading and mentoring a team of cloud engineers and architects. You will drive cloud-native, designed-for-failure architectures, foster collaboration and innovation, and ensure timely delivery with clear business value. This full-time role is based in Chennai.
What you’ll do
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of cloud engineers and architects, providing guidance, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities
- Drive cloud native and designed-for-failure architectures across the enterprise
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team
- Set clear goals and expectations, conduct regular 1:1s, and facilitate team meetings to ensure alignment with organizational objectives
- Develop self-service capabilities so consumers can use the service without requiring manual action
- Create and maintain documentation of enterprise infrastructure topology and system configurations
- Architect, implement, and oversee security policy, monitoring, guidelines, and compliance for Cloud Services
- Optimize cloud platform billing by right-sizing instances and managing reserved instances
What you’ll bring
- 12+ years of hands-on experience in AWS services architecture and governance
- MS or BS degree in computer science or related focus, or equivalent experience
- Experience working on AWS required
- Experience architecting solutions in a complex, globally distributed infrastructure
- Expertise with both Linux and Windows technologies for secure, highly available, mission-critical enterprise-class solutions
- Demonstrable experience delivering automation and other optimization techniques to modernize infrastructure
- Experience working in a continuous delivery environment
- Prior experience managing technical teams, including performance management, coaching, and team development
Nice to have
- Preferred experience with multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Desired 10+ years in relevant cloud, automation, and orchestration
- Experience managing and implementing cloud architectures in a DevOps/Agile methodology
- Experience facilitating incident management and system recovery efforts
- Experience with operating system scripting such as Ansible/Packer, programming languages, and agile project management practices
- Knowledge of Agile approaches to software development and ability to put key Agile principles into practice
- Knowledge of workflows, publishing, analytics, portal, mobile, big data, cloud, and other leading-edge technologies
- Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, iterative development environment
