About the role

Vertiv is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to support high-impact data center projects, focusing on low-voltage power distribution systems. The role designs the mechanical components for Switchboard/Switchgear product lines from concept to release, using 3D CAD software and PLM tools to document designs, while providing technical guidance to supply chain and material management. Based in Pune, India, the engineer collaborates cross-functionally to develop complex drawings, BOMs, and change orders, and supports prototype builds and testing.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and contribute to global design engineering support for new product development, Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE), and improvement projects.
  • Serve as the Mechanical Engineer to lead concept and detailed design of power systems including sheet metal, busbar, power cable, and wire harnesses.
  • Develop complex drawings and bills of material designs, including 2D drawings and/or MBD for mechanical design.
  • Collaborate with other Mechanical Engineers to break down tasks, discuss design ideas, and work towards the best possible solution.
  • Write, submit, and release change orders for new and released products into the PLM system using revision control.
  • Execute diverse projects from concept design to NPD, BOM, CAD modelling, detailing using Solidworks, and Change Orders, maintaining quality standards.
  • Request and review analysis for Seismic, CFD, and Thermal designs while working with the internal simulation team.
  • Work with manufacturing engineers and production associates to build prototypes and provide direction when needed.

What you’ll bring

  • Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or directly related degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 6 to 9 years of experience in product development, OR Associate's Degree with minimum 9+ years experience.
  • Expert in 3D CAD design and programs, preferably Solidworks and/or Creo.
  • Working experience on any PLM tools.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience of sheet metal fabrication process is mandatory.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and familiarity with electrical components such as fuses, circuit breakers, and transformers.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional group setting, including providing technical guidance to support management.

Nice to have

  • Agile or PD cloud PLM experience is an added advantage.
  • Experience in a fabrication environment would be an added advantage.
  • Experience on telecom/electrical enclosure design is an added advantage.
  • Experience with model-based design (MBD) is plus but not required.
  • General knowledge of 3-phase power is preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to summarize technical data/results quickly for non-technical audiences.
