About the role
The Trade Compliance Spec III role at Bio-Rad in Chennai, India, supports the Trade Compliance Manager in developing, implementing, and maintaining import and export compliance programs and SAP Global Trade Services (GTS). Day-to-day work includes HTS and dual-use classification, customs valuation, country-of-origin determination, broker compliance auditing, Free Trade Agreement analysis, SPL screening, and cross-functional liaison with IT and logistics to configure and maintain GTS. The position also delivers compliance training, builds data-driven reports and dashboards, and advises management on trade policy improvements and risk assessments.
What you’ll do
- Supports projects focused on improving import/export operations and processes in the APAC region and coordinates with Customer Service and Logistics to troubleshoot problem orders/shipments
- Maintains and assists with the creation and implementation of Bio-Rad’s export and import compliance procedures and work instructions
- Performs broker compliance verification via auditing import/export transactions and files and conducts Customs compliance audits with reported results
- Exercises judgement with latitude to propose and implement improvements in Trade Compliance policies
- Serves as a subject matter expert in HTS, Origin, Valuation, Transfer Price, Free Trade Agreements, Duty Drawback, and Free Trade Zones
- Assigns HTS and Dual-Use classifications, requests OGA import product information, and assists in country-of-origin determination for manufactured and purchased products
- Administers import/export recordkeeping requirements, performs Free Trade Agreement Analysis, and performs SAP GTS Sanctioned Party Listing (SPL) screening
- Sets up restrictions in SAP GTS for import/export compliance concerns, manages shipments with export restrictions, and manages the GTS module of SAP
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in International Business, Business Administration, Business Information, or a related discipline
- Minimum 7 years of experience in a similar position involving data management and dynamic Global Trade
- Ideal experience working in bio-pharma, medical, or life science related companies
- Knowledge of trade compliance regulations in more than one country
- Advanced quantitative skills with proficiency in data analysis (SAP/MS Access), modeling (MS Excel), and presenting (MS PowerPoint)
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and tools such as PowerBI
- Expert knowledge of qualifying items under various Free Trade Agreements, Customs Reconciliation, and Duty Reductions Programs
- Advanced skills in product classification including HTS and Dual-Use classification (ECN)
