Simulation Senior Associate Engineer
About the role
As a Senior Associate Engineer in the Power Solutions & Controls Development - LPSD India team at Caterpillar, you will serve as a controls systems analyst for the end-to-end design and development of large gas, dual-fuel, and diesel engine control systems. Day-to-day work involves translating system requirements into control algorithms, validating control strategies in closed-loop simulation environments or through on-engine testing, and collaborating with tech leads and diverse global teams. The role is based in Bangalore, Karnataka, and requires five working days per week from the office with approximately 10% global travel.
What you’ll do
- Serve as a controls systems analyst on complex projects and assignments for the end-to-end design and development of large gas, dual-fuel, and diesel engine control systems
- Translate system requirements into control algorithms to ensure the system meets target requirements
- Work closely with tech leads to validate control strategies in a closed-loop simulation environment or through on-engine testing
- Apply classical and modern control theory, including SISO and MIMO systems with Sequential Loop Closing and Robust MIMO controls, in time and frequency domains
- Model dynamic systems using physics-based white box modeling and black box modeling with system identification techniques
- Collaborate globally and use clear communication to succeed in diverse global teams
- Support engine rating development for Genset applications across diesel, gas, and dual-fuel engines
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automobile, or Aerospace Engineering
- Overall experience of 4+ years in engine performance and control systems development
- 2+ years of experience developing engine control systems for diesel/gas/dual fuel engines
- Experience in diesel/gas/dual fuel engine rating development for Genset application
- Experience in GT-Power, Dynasty, Matlab/Simulink, Vector CANape, and Co-simulation applied to gas/diesel/dual fuel engine development
- Knowledge of classical control theory with Single Input Single Output (SISO) systems
- Knowledge of classical and modern control theory with Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems using Sequential Loop Closing (SLC) in time and frequency domain, and Robust MIMO controls
- Experience modeling dynamic systems using physics-based white box modeling and black box modeling via system identification techniques in time and frequency domain
