About the role
PTC is seeking a Principal Engineer in Pune, India to drive the architecture, design, and technical strategy of enterprise Java applications. Day-to-day work includes defining technical roadmaps, setting coding standards, leading cross-team architectural reviews, mentoring senior engineers, and partnering with leadership to align technical strategy with business goals in an Agile environment. The role requires deep Core Java expertise and a customer-first mindset to deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable software.
What you’ll do
- Define and drive the architecture, design, and technical roadmap for complex, scalable Java applications
- Set coding standards and best practices; write clean, reusable, high-impact code
- Lead architectural reviews, high-stakes technical discussions, and cross-team design decisions
- Mentor and coach senior engineers and tech leads, elevating engineering capability across the organization
- Partner with cross-functional and leadership teams to align technical strategy with business goals in an Agile environment
- Proactively identify and resolve systemic performance, reliability, and scalability challenges while documenting architectural decisions
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent
- 8–10+ years of hands-on experience in Java application development
- Deep expertise in Core Java, OOP, SOLID principles, and Design Patterns
- Extensive experience in enterprise-scale system design, distributed architecture, and technical strategy
- Demonstrated track record of mentoring engineers and leading technical decision-making across teams
- Strong experience with JUnit, Git, REST APIs, and modern software engineering practices
- Exceptional analytical, debugging, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code)
