Database Migration Engineer

About the role

Database Migration Engineer on Mactores' Application & Database Modernization pillar, building production-ready migrations and retiring legacy databases using AWS tools. The role converts, tests, and reconciles database objects to PostgreSQL, collaborates with senior engineers, application teams, and cloud engineers to ensure performance and reliability post‑go‑live. Remote, based in Mumbai, India, with a fully remote work model.

What you’ll do

• Convert SQL, stored procedures, and database objects to PostgreSQL-compatible code
• Maintain Flyway migration codebase with versioned scripts and rollbacks
• Identify and troubleshoot database‑related application bugs
• Support query optimization and performance tuning for PostgreSQL
• Monitor AWS DMS during full load and CDC phases, flagging issues
• Validate and reconcile data between source and target databases
• Collaborate with application teams and senior engineers on complex SCT findings
• Assist in cutover planning and execution

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
• 3-5 years database development/engineering experience
• Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL
• Hands‑on database migration projects (Oracle‑to‑PostgreSQL or SQL Server‑to‑PostgreSQL)
• Strong SQL skills and query performance tuning
• Familiarity with AWS SCT and AWS DMS
• Experience with schema migration tools like Flyway or Liquibase
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL indexing and execution plans
