Senior Software Engineering Manager

About the role

Medtronic's Global R&D organization seeks a Senior Software Engineering Manager to direct the software development function at MEIC, ensuring superior product performance and quality. Day-to-day work includes growing and sustaining the software engineering function, managing projects and budgets, aligning cross-functional resources, and leading AI/ML adoption and shift-left DevOps practices. The role is based in Nanakramguda, Hyderabad, India, and requires up to 15% international and domestic travel.

What you’ll do

• Lead the adoption and integration of AI/ML technologies and AI-driven software development practices across R&D teams to accelerate product development cycles
• Promote the use of generative AI tools, automated code generation, and intelligent analytics to elevate software quality and engineering throughput
• Embed quality, security, and performance testing into the earliest phases of the SDLC to minimize defect leakages and optimize delivery speed
• Establish modern DevOps practices and continuous deployment pipelines that enforce early SW efficiency, architectural consistency, and compliance from inception to release
• Foster a culture of technical ownership and decentralized decision-making within MEIC engineering teams, ensuring alignment with global strategic objectives
• Build robust governance frameworks and clear decision-making protocols that allow local engineering leaders to autonomously execute turnkey NPD and sustaining projects
• Conduct technical deep dives and engaging 1-on-1 architecture discussions with global stakeholders to align on product roadmaps and technical trade-offs
• Prepare and monitor annual budgets, report progress and project costs, and develop relationships with other OU development teams for strategic partnership

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in Computer Sciences, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Bio-Technology, or equivalent from a premium institute, with specialization/certification i
• Minimum 18+ years of applicable work experience in SW product development and global team environment
• Minimum 8 years of hands-on software development critical experience implementing large to medium complex software architectures (C++, Ubuntu, Python, C#, Graphics, .net WinUI / DevOps)
• Minimum 5+ years of Software Engineering management with critical people and project management
• Proven experience managing larger software teams including Engineering managers as direct reports
• Proven experience managing large, complex technology initiatives of strategic importance involving cross-functional teams
• Experience owning, supervising and delivering concurrent software releases using iterative/agile techniques
• Fluency in English

Nice to have

• Masters in Engineering or Masters in Technology in Computer Sciences, Bio-medical, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Bio-Technology, or equivalent from a premium institute
• Prior experience in a large MNC as Senior Software Engineering Manager
• Management of globally dispersed teams highly-preferred
