Research Integrity Screening Specialist
About the role
The Research Integrity Screening Specialist joins Springer Nature’s Editorial Excellence team in Pune, supporting research integrity, journal editorial policy, and indexing. Day-to-day, the role analyzes integrity concerns flagged by the Screening Hub, conducts detailed manuscript assessments to validate flags or identify false positives, reviews remediated re-submissions, and communicates concerns to editors, publishers, and authors per SOPs and COPE guidelines. The specialist also partners with internal and external stakeholders, provides feedback on publishing tools and workflows, and documents case files and reporting.
What you’ll do
- Analyze concerns in submissions flagged by Springer Nature’s research integrity technology solution, Screening Hub, applying critical scientific evaluation, manuscript assessment strategies, and stron
- Conduct detailed manuscript assessments to decide which concerns can be remediated by authors before reconsideration, which are false positives indicating the submission is clear to proceed, and which
- Review re-submissions where concerns have been remediated by authors to ensure compliance with requested changes
- Manage complexity inherent in the evaluation and decision process with an action-oriented approach
- Partner with internal team members and external service providers to assess and address integrity issues and remediation of submissions
- Communicate concerns, where necessary and determined by protocols and SOPs, to Editors, Publishers, and authors according to relevant Springer Nature policies, COPE guidelines, and industry best pract
- Become an expert in the use of technologies and tools to provide insights into potential unethical behaviors and provide feedback on potential new features or improvements to publishing workflows and
- Document case files, project plans, and statistics with detail and may use data analytics/quantitative skills to contribute insights to regular reporting
What you’ll bring
- Educated to Masters level in STEM or HSS
- 2+ years’ of work experience in editorial or publishing
- Knowledge/experience of the academic publishing industry, scholarly publication processes, systems and tools, specifically in submission screening and/or evaluation
- Familiarity with publication ethics and research integrity issues, and a passion for quality control
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders of any background, seniority, or level of experience
- High level of computer literacy including knowledge of and experience with Office applications
- Excellent organizational, prioritization, analytical and time-management skills, with superior attention to detail
- Strong communication (written and oral) and English language skills
