About the role
Lead Digital Architect – Product Information Management (PIM / Akeneo) at Caterpillar is responsible for solution‑ and component‑level architecture of PIM capabilities within the company’s commerce and experience ecosystem. The role translates business and product requirements into scalable, secure, and operable solution designs, and actively augments delivery teams through hands‑on architectural contribution. Working under a System Architect, the candidate designs PIM solutions such as Akeneo, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards, integration patterns, and non‑functional requirements. Responsibilities include decomposing requirements, designing solution architectures, performing trade‑off analysis, documenting non‑functional requirements, producing architecture artifacts, leading architecture reviews, guiding delivery teams, and managing risks. Technical duties cover cloud‑native architecture on AWS, RESTful API design, event‑driven integration, data flow design, CI/CD pipelines, IaC, security‑by‑design, and observability. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, 8–12 years of experience in software engineering or solution architecture, and proven experience on enterprise‑scale digital platforms.
What you’ll do
- Decompose business and product requirements into clear, implementable architectural components.
- Design solution‑level architectures for PIM capabilities, including data models, interfaces, workflows, and integration patterns.
- Perform architecture trade‑off analysis (build vs buy, cost vs scalability, speed vs sustainability).
- Define and document non‑functional requirements such as scalability, performance, security, reliability, and operational readiness.
- Produce and maintain architecture artifacts such as solution diagrams, interface contracts, and architectural decision records (ADRs).
- Lead solution architecture reviews and design walkthroughs, guiding delivery teams to realize design intent.
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 8–12 years of experience in software engineering, solution architecture, or platform delivery.
Nice to have
- Experience with Product Information Management (PIM) platforms such as Akeneo or equivalent.
- Experience with Commerce/eCommerce platforms.
- Experience with Content Management Systems (Adobe ecosystem preferred).
- Experience with Search platforms and experience delivery integrations.
