Tech Lead Data Engineer

About the role

Data Lake 2.0 Pod at Southwest Airlines builds reusable cloud data platforms for analytics, ML and AI across the enterprise. As Tech Lead Data Engineer you will set technical direction, design scalable AWS data pipelines, automate infrastructure with IaC and mentor engineers in Hyderabad. On-site, India Office, full-time role leading a team of data engineers.

What you’ll do

• Define and implement data lake architecture and standards
• Lead hands‑on development of AWS data services and automation
• Design real‑time and batch ingestion pipelines
• Ensure scalability, security and performance of data platforms
• Collaborate with product, analytics and data science teams
• Drive engineering excellence through reusable patterns
• Mentor and coach engineering team members
• Identify and implement process improvements and cost optimizations

What you’ll bring

• 8-10 years data engineering experience
• Expertise in AWS services (S3, Lake Formation, Glue, Athena, Redshift)
• IaC with Terraform or CloudFormation
• Design and build large-scale data pipelines
• Mentoring and technical leadership

Nice to have

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
