Senior Software Engineer, Java Full Stack

About the role

Toast Engineering builds technology platforms that empower restaurants to operate, increase sales, and delight customers. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will independently design and implement full‑stack features using React or Angular on the front end and Java, Kotlin, or .NET on the back end, collaborate with product, UX, and QA teams, and ensure code quality through reviews and testing. This role is based in Chennai with a hybrid work model, allowing a mix of on‑site collaboration and remote work.

What you’ll do

• Design and implement full‑stack features with minimal guidance
• Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, QA, and engineers to translate requirements
• Develop frontend components focusing on usability and performance
• Contribute to backend services and API integrations
• Write clean, maintainable, testable code following engineering standards
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root‑cause analysis
• Communicate progress, risks, and dependencies to the team

What you’ll bring

• 6+ years full‑stack development
• Strong experience with React or Angular
• Backend development in Java, Kotlin, or .NET
• Building and consuming RESTful APIs
• Proficiency with Git and modern branching workflows
• Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
• Experience with AWS cloud platform
• Agile/Scrum team experience
