About the role
Lead Software Engineer on the Commercial & Investment Bank's Markets Research Technology Team at JPMorgan Chase in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. You will drive a high-profile data modernization project by building a scalable cloud-native data platform and developing core data products and data-intensive applications to advance Research Technology and client intelligence. Day-to-day work includes designing and delivering secure, robust technology solutions, providing technical guidance and mentorship, and leading adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices across an agile team.
What you’ll do
- Provide technical guidance and direction to support the business and its technical teams, contractors, and vendors
- Develop secure, high-quality production code and review/debug code written by others
- Drive team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, while establishing consistent validation standards and
- Apply SDLC toolchain tools, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve automation value
- Drive decisions influencing product design, application functionality, and technical operations and processes
- Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications and ensure design constraints are met by software code development
- Build end-to-end modern data pipelines and solutions, migrating data products to cloud-native platforms
- Design and implement data engineering solutions using cloud-native data technologies aligned with modern data architecture strategies, while providing hands-on solutions and technical leadership/mento
What you’ll bring
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
- Hands-on practical experience delivering large-scale cloud-native data platforms
- Proficient in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
- Advanced experience in Python and/or Java, plus experience developing APIs and backend services
- Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools and setting team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security
- Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and resiliency/security expectations; experience coaching engineers
- Proven track record in system design, architecting and developing microservices, distributed systems, and data-intensive applications
- Experience with cloud services, Infrastructure as Code, containerized application development, big data, and modern data engineering technologies
Nice to have
- Experience with data and application migration to AWS in commercial settings
- Practical experience with Snowflake or Databricks
- Familiarity with data quality, observability, and lineage tooling
- Experience developing APIs and backend services
- Experience collaborating with data analysts, reporting teams, or business analysts
- Familiarity with modern Business Intelligence and reporting tools
