Senior Machine Learning Engineer

About the role

The Intelligence Team within SAP Application AI develops advanced R&D and AI applications for the SAP Autonomous Suite, delivering autonomous enterprise capabilities across SAP business applications. As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will collaborate with product, engineering, and customer stakeholders to translate complex business problems into mathematical models, design and optimize ML algorithms, and deliver rapid prototypes and production-grade AI solutions. You will also apply research breakthroughs to practical problems, support system scalability and explainability, and communicate insights across technical and non-technical audiences. The role is based in Bangalore, KA, IN and follows a hybrid work model.

What you’ll do

• Translate complex business problems into mathematical or computational models and design, implement, and optimize machine learning algorithms and data mining workflows
• Collaborate directly with customers to understand business needs, define requirements, and deliver proof-of-concept and production-grade AI solutions
• Build, integrate, and test AI-driven prototypes and applications for real-world use cases
• Design and implement novel machine learning algorithms and apply recent research breakthroughs to practical problems for measurable business value
• Contribute to continuous improvement of system scalability, performance, and explainability
• Clearly communicate complex results and insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders and visualize and document findings for transparency and reproducibility
• Work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and research teams to drive AI adoption
• Write production-grade Python code and apply ethical and explainable AI practices

What you’ll bring

• Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in machine learning, data science, or AI research across industry, research lab, or advanced academic projects
• Strong background in machine learning, deep learning, data mining, and/or optimization
• Proficiency in Python and machine learning libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and scikit-learn
• Extensive experience with real-world datasets, data preprocessing, and model deployment
• Expertise working with cloud environments including AWS, Azure, and GCP
• Solid understanding of MLOps, CI/CD for ML, and monitoring
• Ability to collect and process data using big data infrastructures and tools such as Databricks
