BIW Design Engineer
About the role
Expleo is hiring a BIW Design Engineer in Pune, India to design and develop vehicle body structures and components. Day-to-day work includes creating and modifying 3D CAD models and 2D drawings, performing GD&T and tolerance stack-up, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and supporting prototype and production activities. The role requires 3–8 years of experience and a B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical, Automobile, Production Engineering or a related field.
What you’ll do
- Design and develop BIW components and body structures such as side body, floor, roof, pillars, cross members, brackets, doors, hood and other structural parts
- Create and modify 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings as per design requirements
- Perform GD&T, tolerance stack-up and design validation
- Ensure designs meet manufacturing, assembly, quality and safety requirements
- Work on design changes, engineering change requests and design improvements
- Coordinate with manufacturing, tooling, welding, CAE, quality and suppliers for design feasibility
- Perform DFM/DFA studies and support prototype development, testing and production activities
- Resolve design and manufacturing issues related to BIW components and maintain engineering documentation, BOMs and design specifications
What you’ll bring
- B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical, Automobile, Production Engineering or related field
- 3–8 years of experience in automotive BIW design and development
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal design and manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of spot welding, laser welding, hemming and joining processes
- Good knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up
- Experience with CAD tools such as CATIA V5, Siemens NX, Creo or similar
- Understanding of BIW manufacturing and assembly processes
- Knowledge of BOM, engineering drawings and product lifecycle/change management
Nice to have
- Experience with OEM/Tier-1 automotive projects
- Knowledge of BIW architecture and vehicle body structure
- Experience in working with suppliers and manufacturing teams
- Knowledge of DFMEA/PFMEA and basic automotive quality standards
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills
- Good communication and coordination skills
