Cloud Traffic Engineering Manager

Bengaluru, India Full-time Hybrid

About the role

eBay’s Cloud team powers the foundational cloud infrastructure that supports thousands of eBay applications. As a Cloud Traffic Engineering Manager, you will lead a team responsible for the development, operations, and governance of one of the largest private clouds in the world based on Kubernetes. The role focuses on managing all cloud traffic infrastructure, including load balancing, global traffic management (GTM), Point of Presence (PoP), service mesh, API gateways, and advanced network policies. You will design, deploy, and operate high‑performance, fault‑tolerant traffic routing solutions that handle billions of daily requests, ensuring low‑latency connectivity for internal microservices and external customer traffic. Continuous optimization of data‑plane performance, rigorous security enforcement at the edge and within clusters, and the development of self‑service tools for application teams are key deliverables. Leadership responsibilities include mentoring engineers, conducting one‑on‑one meetings, managing performance evaluations, recruiting, and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. You will coordinate engineering activities to deliver product features on time with quality, observability, and scalability, drive adoption of cloud‑native technologies, and collaborate with internal partners such as product, PMO, SRE, operations, fleet management, and information security teams. The role requires deep expertise in Kubernetes, containerization, service mesh, microservices, load balancing, GTM, PoP, API gateways, network policies, automation, DevOps, SRE principles, capacity planning, cost optimization, and Linux kernel customization.

  • Ensure full software lifecycle instrumentation from requirement ideation to deployment.
  • Drive adoption of cloud‑native technologies and standard processes such as service mesh, microservices, etc.
  • Collaborate with internal partners: cloud engineering, product, PMO, SRE, operations, fleet management, information security, global security teams.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years of people management or technical leadership.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to bridge technical and design perspectives.
  • Strong technical background with deep understanding of cloud-native architectures and technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, containerization, service mesh, microservices).
  • Experience with software development, networking, and security technologies in a large-scale cloud environment.
  • Experience working in large, distributed global teams and supporting medium or large-scale technology organizations with multiple internal partners.

Nice to have

  • Direct experience with customizing and maintaining Linux operating system kernels for large-scale, high-performance computing platforms.
  • Experience in capacity planning, resource allocation, and cost optimization for large private cloud infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of software development, networking, security, and storage technologies in a cloud environment and proven understanding of cloud-native architectures, microservices.
  • DevOps and SRE principles.
  • Deep expertise in implementing and championing automation to enhance efficiency and reliability.
  • Professional certifications related to Kubernetes (e.g., CKA, CKS) or cloud infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to work closely with Information Security teams on compliance, security controls, and monitoring for cloud infrastructure.
  • Understanding of developer experience (DX) principles for API-driven platforms.
  • Strong product mindset — balancing security rigor with customer empathy and usability.
