About the role

HSBC’s GCIO team is reshaping software engineering by building a next-generation application platform that delivers best-in-class tooling and seamless automation. As a Lead Java Engineer, you will design high-quality Java microservices, manage Kubernetes deployments, and lead an effective engineering team to drive continuous improvement. This role is based in Pune, Maharashtra, India.

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality Java applications
  • Utilize Kubernetes for deploying, scaling, and managing containerized applications
  • Lead and develop an effective engineering team through collaboration and performance management
  • Identify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugs while maintaining code quality
  • Provide senior management with technological positioning relative to mission and industry
  • Create a sustainable and high-performing Engineering organization focused on OKRs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features
  • Help drive good engineering culture and practices through hands-on development

What you’ll bring

  • Subject matter expert in Kubernetes and DevSecOps practices
  • Strong hands-on skills in Java-based micro-service architectures
  • In-depth understanding of the Kubernetes ecosystem and container orchestration
  • Experience with solution design for technical platforms within a complex industry
  • Solid working experience in Agile development framework

Nice to have

  • Strategic leader with deep knowledge of the financial services industry
  • Proven track record in driving continuous improvement and complex transformational change
  • Ability to write testable, maintainable code including Unit and Regression Tests
  • Familiarity with Node.js and Go-Lang is an added advantage
