Applications Engineer

About the role

Kennametal Inc. seeks an Application Engineer based in Bangalore, KA, IN to deliver runoff, application, CPP, and productivity optimization support for turn-key projects across aerospace, transportation, general engineering, railways, and machine tools. Day-to-day work includes on-site process setup, troubleshooting, failure analysis, cycle-time and tool-life validation, documentation of parameters and success cases, and handover to regional sales teams. The role is hybrid and requires willingness to travel to customers in various geographic locations.

What you’ll do

• Provide runoff/application/CPP/POP support to turn-key projects for both KMT and WID brands
• Grow KIL share by supporting project run-off, application support, troubleshooting, and CPP/POP activities at various customer locations
• Understand customer requirements, conduct line studies, provide CPP proposals, and support the field team in proving proposed projects
• Work closely with customers to prove projects per cycle time commitment, tool life, and CPC proposed
• Conclude CPP and runoff projects and sign off with the customer (MOM) and regional sales team
• Maintain project documents and share unique success case studies
• Establish proposed tools at customer sites as committed, perform failure analysis and process optimization
• Document process parameters, share reports with CFT for horizontal deployment, and handover projects to regional teams for repeat business

What you’ll bring

• Minimum 5 to 10 years of experience in cutting tool sales/application or process engineering/process design
• Sound knowledge of cutting tool applications including turning, milling, hole making, and hole finishing
• Sound knowledge of machining fundamentals, process design, process re-engineering, and fundamentals of fixturing
• Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings
• Ability to troubleshoot tool performance and related issues
• Experience in providing tool proposals
• Hands-on expertise in CNC programming
• Willingness to travel to customers in various geographic locations for conclusion of turnkey projects

Nice to have

• Machine shop production experience
• Hands-on application/troubleshooting knowledge of guide pad reamers
• Knowledge on process capability (Cp, CpK)
• Knowledge of CAD/CAM and CAM software such as Esprit, NX, SolidCAM, MasterCAM, CATIA
• Communication skill with good command in English (oral & verbal)
