Staff Software Engineer, Workspace Search Quality

About the role

Google Cloud's Workspace Search Quality team builds consistent, intuitive search and finding tools across Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Chat, Calendar) so users can quickly find content and collaborate. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead end-to-end search solution design, develop and deploy machine learning models to improve search quality, own technical roadmaps, and mentor engineers. This role is based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

What you’ll do

• Lead the design and implementation of end-to-end search solutions, from understanding natural language queries to developing and deploying machine learning models that significantly improve search qua
• Drive innovation by exploring and integrating machine learning techniques, algorithms, and architectures to enhance search relevance and user experience
• Own the technical goal and roadmaps for critical areas of Google Workspace Search, collaborating with cross-functional teams to define and deliver on a strategic roadmap
• Mentor and guide a team of engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning
• Establish and refine evaluation frameworks and metrics to measure and track progress against key performance indicators

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
• 8 years of experience in software development
• 5 years of experience testing and launching software products
• 3 years of experience with software design and architecture

Nice to have

• Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
• 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects
