Associate Design Engineer - TF Piping Checker EPC

About the role

As an Associate Design Engineer within Solar Turbine’s Construction Services at Caterpillar Inc., you will lead the engineering and design of piping systems for Oil & Gas projects such as gas compression stations. Day-to-day work spans FEED, detail engineering, procurement, in-house fabrication, and commissioning, including pipe routing, spool creation, isometric extraction, line sizing, and fabrication drawing production using Autodesk Plant 3D and related CAD tools. The role is based in Bangalore, Karnataka, and is a full-time position.

What you’ll do

  • Design, implement, and maintain piping systems within the Oil & Gas industry for projects such as gas compression stations
  • Participate in FEED, detail engineering, procurement, in-house fabrication, and commissioning activities while ensuring performance metrics are achieved
  • Perform line sizing, thickness calculation, pressure drop calculation, and equipment sizing
  • Prepare line lists, valve lists, equipment lists, and piping material specifications
  • Create pipe routing, equipment modelling, pipe spools, and fabrication drawings using Autodesk Plant 3D
  • Extract piping isometrics from 3D models and update isometrics for IFC; create 2D drawings such as piping plans, elevations, and equipment layouts
  • Prepare MTOs and BOMs from piping 3D models and conduct clash checks and vendor drawing reviews
  • Diagnose and resolve issues in existing piping systems, perform maintenance, and provide virtual technical support for shop floor orders and commissioning

What you’ll bring

  • Minimum 6-8 years of industry experience in engineering/design execution and associated applications
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from an accredited Engineering Institute
  • Knowledge of piping design codes and standards such as ASME B 31.3 and ASME B 31.8
  • Experience with line sizing, thickness calculation, pressure drop calculation, and equipment sizing
  • Ability to prepare line lists, valve lists, equipment lists, and piping material specifications
  • Proficiency in pipe routing and equipment modelling using Autodesk Plant 3D
  • Experience creating pipe spools and fabrication drawings
  • Knowledge of piping isometrics, piping plans and elevations, and equipment layout drawings

Nice to have

  • Experience with 3D design tools such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, Inventor, and E3D
  • Knowledge of pipe support engineering
  • Experience with clash checks and vendor drawing review
  • Experience preparing MTOs and BOMs from piping 3D models
  • Exposure to multi-disciplinary engineering teams in Oil and Gas EPC projects
  • Ability to provide virtual technical support for shop floor orders and commissioning
  • Experience designing, improving, and standardizing fabrication and assembly processes for large bore pipes
  • Familiarity with ASME and API industry codes and standards application across specifications and vendor documentation
