AI/ML Engineering Lead Associate Director
About the role
HSBC seeks an AI/ML Engineering Lead to drive the delivery of scalable GenAI and data solutions on Google Cloud Platform within its Data and Analytics team. The role involves owning technical strategy, building robust pipelines, implementing MLOps practices, and leading production operations for AI services in Pune. This is a hybrid position requiring strong leadership and hands-on expertise in Python, LLMs, and cloud infrastructure.
What you’ll do
- Lead delivery of AI/ML engineering solutions on GCP from design through production support
- Own architecture and technical strategy for scalable, secure data/AI platforms
- Design and build robust data pipelines using BigQuery, Dataflow, Airflow, and Pub/Sub
- Implement MLOps practices for full model lifecycle including CI/CD and monitoring
- Establish engineering best practices including coding standards and observability
- Embed security-by-design and compliance controls partnering with Cyber Security
- Ensure data quality, lineage, and governance suitable for regulated environments
- Lead production operations including SLOs, alerting, and incident management
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering; Master’s preferred
- Minimum 12 years of software engineering experience with focus on governance
- Proven experience in application architecture and data management
- Hands-on delivery of LLM and RAG solutions including orchestration frameworks
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL with pgvector and graph databases like FalkorDB
- Strong Redis experience for caching and performance optimization
- Proficiency in Python and RDBMS platforms
- Experience delivering GenAI solutions including agentic AI patterns

- Familiarity with AI technologies in banking or financial services

- Technical acumen in cloud computing and CI/CD pipelines
