Senior Analyst - Software Asset Management

About the role

The Software Asset Management (SAM) Analyst drives the governance of Hapag‑Lloyd’s software and SaaS portfolio, ensuring every license is compliant, cost‑effective, and accurately tracked. This role oversees the entire lifecycle—from procurement and renewal to audit support—maintaining a centralized inventory and aligning technology spend with business strategy. By leveraging SAM tools and analytics, the analyst identifies optimization opportunities, mitigates compliance risks, and delivers transparent reporting to stakeholders.

What you’ll do

• Establish and maintain comprehensive SAM framework for all software and SaaS applications
• Maintain accurate software & contract inventory, ensuring data quality in SAM tools and CMDB
• Track and manage software entitlements, usage, renewals, and compliance to prevent overspend
• Analyze software usage with 3rd party tools (Flexera, Nexthink) and prepare license position reports
• Support audits and compliance initiatives with accurate inventory and license documentation
• Create dashboards and reports for transparency into software utilization, compliance, portfolio health
• Evaluate and onboard new software solutions, ensuring compliance with IT and SAM governance standards
• Collaborate with Procurement and Vendor Management during renewals, true-ups, negotiations, sourcing decisions
• Identify opportunities for license optimization (reharvesting, right-sizing, subscription cleanup, rationalization)
• Monitor unauthorized, unlicensed, or end-of-life software to reduce compliance risks
• Recommend process enhancements and enable automation to streamline SAM operations
• Track SaaS usage, inactive accounts, over-licensed subscriptions, cloud marketplace purchases, ensuring proper license utilization and BYOL governance

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related discipline
• Expert proficiency in English language
• CSAM (IAITAM) foundation in SAM lifecycle and compliance
• ITIL 4 Specialist: ITAM for process alignment and governance
• Microsoft / AWS Licensing Specialist
