SDET - Playwright Automation

About the role

Cognizant's Technology & Engineering department seeks a Senior/Lead QA Playwright Automation Engineer to design, develop, and maintain robust automation solutions for web and mobile applications. Day-to-day work includes building scalable test automation frameworks, creating Playwright scripts, designing API and SQL-based tests, performing cross-browser testing, integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines, and providing technical leadership and mentoring within an Agile environment. The role is based across multiple Indian locations (Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Coimbatore, Kolkata, Noida) with a 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM IST shift.

What you’ll do

• Develop, maintain, and enhance scalable test automation frameworks for web and mobile applications
• Create and maintain automated test scripts using Playwright and appropriate programming languages
• Design and execute functional, regression, integration, and API automation tests
• Develop and maintain API automation suites using REST Assured
• Write and execute complex SQL queries to validate backend data and application workflows
• Perform cross-browser and cross-platform testing using BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, or similar solutions
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and support continuous testing practices
• Provide technical leadership in automation strategy, framework architecture, and testing best practices

What you’ll bring

• 4–10 years of professional experience in software quality assurance and test automation for web and mobile applications
• Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience with Playwright
• Strong programming experience in at least one language such as Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript
• Proven ability to design and build test automation frameworks from scratch
• Strong experience in API automation testing using REST Assured
• Good knowledge of relational databases with ability to write complex SQL queries using Oracle Database or other relational databases
• Hands-on experience with cross-browser testing and automation using BrowserStack and Sauce Labs
• Experience with functional, regression, integration, and API testing

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies, CI/CD practices, and modern software development processes
• Knowledge of Git/GitHub and version-control best practices
• Exposure to Generative AI/GenAI tools and applications is an added advantage
• Knowledge in Healthcare domain is an added advantage
